Meet Melissa Spencer

Melissa Spencer is the founder of Peaceful World Yoga, a Mindful-Based Yoga program for human beings of all ages. Her greatest passion and mission in life is to serve her students in a way that supports their own life purpose, by gently guiding each student to open themselves up to the endless possibilities life has to offer.
Melissa received her initial 200 Hour Yoga teacher training and certification at the renowned Himalayan Institute and then worked her way through an E-RYT500 in Denver, Colorado. Spencer also has a 200 Hour Meditation Certification and has one of the first registered, combination 200 Yoga Asana and Meditation Certification Programs.
Melissa has been trained by Mindful Schools in California and implements weekly lessons in schools across the Denver Metro area. She is an RCYT (Registered Children's Yoga Teacher) and working with children and families is one her greatest passions. By inviting laughter, singing, dancing, breathing, and releasing of big sighs, she attracts both children and adults of all ages to her classes.
Melissa received her Reiki Master certification in 2016 and holds sessions in her home and also takes her Reiki practice into the homes of her students and also does group Reiki sessions. Melissa also received her Level 1 and Level 2 Sound Healing Certification and shares her Vibrational Sound Journeys in her weekly classes and with private clients. She believes that the healing powers of Vibrational Sounds and Restorative Yoga, blended with modern-day science can help to heal at a deep level.
Before creating Peaceful World Yoga, Melissa was a K-8 classroom teacher, staff developer, Reading Curriculum Director, and trainer in Florida and Colorado for over 25 years. By combining her years of experience in schools and classrooms with hundreds of hours of specialized training, coursework, and hands-on instruction, Melissa has created a series of Yoga and Mindfulness-based programs focused on providing real and quantifiable improvements in the social, emotional and physical outcomes of students in today's uniquely challenging environment.
Melissa's Educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University, A Master's Degree in Literacy from Walden University, A Master's Degree in Administration and Counseling from University of Colorado, and Master's Degree in Mindful-Based Stress Reduction from UMASS. Spencer received her PhD in 2015 in Administrative Studies and Policies with a focus on Trauma Therapy Counseling. Although education is a gift in today's world, Melissa believes that degrees and certifications mean nothing if they are not implemented with the whole-person in mind. Taking the knowledge and wisdom from books and instructors is only useful if the lessons learned and implemented come from the space of the heart.
Melissa attributes her contributions to the world to all of her teachers, her dear friends, and amazing supporters who have been placed on her path; with the support and love of the Human Race the world can be whole. Her belief is that she is here to serve through Yoga philosophy, sound healing, and guiding students to discover the union of the mind, body, and spirit through daily practice. "The lessons that make the most impacts in the world are those that are taken off the yoga mat and implemented out into the world," is the way Melissa teaches her students.
Melissa is a dedicated practitioner in the spiritual aspects of the Eight Limb Path and is humbled and honored to do the work of the Divine Mother, nature, and Mother Earth. Namaste
