mindful-based cognitive therapy

What is MBCT?
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an established program for people with depression or for people suffering from medical or other issues that can bring on depression, anxiety and/or stress.
MBCT combines the practice and clinical application of mindfulness meditation with the tools of cognitive therapy to break the cycle of recurrent depression and is based on the research of Drs. Zindel Segal, John Teasdale and Mark Williams and documented in their book Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression, a New Approach to Preventing Relapse.
What are the benefits of MBCT?
- Clinically proven for reducing symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety disorders
- Helps prevent future episodes for those who suffer from recurrent depression, stress and anxiety disorders
- Can be used together with medication, but with continued practice, can help reduce the need for medication. (Please seek the advisement of your Dr. before beginning any program)
How do I begin?
Private MBCT sessions are provided for individuals who prefer one-on-one therapy versus small group intervention or workshop settings. Sessions are set up to meet individual needs and can be held in your home or any location of your choice.
There is also an 8-week MBCT workshop/program that is a small group intervention that allows participants to become aware of how conditioned patterns of mind and mood can trigger depression relapse and sustain current symptoms of depression in a safe setting within a supportive community. Through the practice of mindful awareness, students/patients develop the capacity to mindfully disengage from distressing moods and negative thoughts.
For students and patients who have suffered from recurrent depression, anxiety and chronic stress, the ability to recognize the early signs of relapse allows for skillful intervention before mood symptoms and negative thought patterns become severe.
